THE CHRONOLOGY OF OUR ESTEEMED INSTITUTION
1917

Perak Hokkien Association began running private classes.

1925 Poi Lam School was officially established as an educational 
institution in the South-East Asia region.
1941 War disrupted the running of the school.
1945

Poi Lam School resumed operation.

1955

Started Junior Middle section classes with a totaled of 120 students.

1962 Became a National-type secondary school. Ran private classes to cater for adults and mature students forming the core of Poi Lam Independent School.
1963 Formed a separate Board of Directors for the newly independent school. Started Senior Middle Three classes and appointed Mdm. Tan Yoke Fay as the Principal.
1964

Government Primary Six Examination was abolished which disrupted the intake of new Junior Middle One students. Enrolment depended on students who failed L.C.E.

1970 Enrolment dropped to 85 students.
1971 To increase the depleting number of enrolment in the school, new plans on recruiting new students were made. The school was revived after teachers and staff managed to recruit 100 new students. The former Board of Director, Mr Zeng Dun Hua set up a meeting along with the Principals from the nine independent schools in Perak to come up with ways to revive the Chinese independent schools. In 1973, Mr Hu Wan Duo was elected the Chairman of the committee to restore and to improve the Chinese independent schools system. An amount of RM100 000 was raised for the development of the schools.
1973 Tan Sri Dato Li Lai Sheng donated a 11-acre piece of land to build the new school.Plans to revitalize the Chinese independent schools system in Perak were carried out and continued to spread to other states in Malaysia.
1976

Enrolment increased to 800 students. Completed the 2nd phase of the school development project and started Commerce and Electronics classes for the Senior Middle section.

1977

Enrolment increased to 1093 students with 31 classes.

1978

Work for the 3rd phase of the school development project began. Enrolment increased to 1500.

1979

Enrolment reached 1548 with 32 classes.

1980 Enrolment increased to 1850 with 41 classes.
1981

Enrolment further increased to 1888 with 43 classes.

1982 Enrolment peaked at 1890 with 42 classes.
