THE CHRONOLOGY OF OUR ESTEEMED INSTITUTION
1983 Enrolment was 1666 with 39 classes.
1984

Enrolment was 1500 with 36 classes. 3rd phase of the school development project completed with the construction of the Audio Visual Centre and 21 new classrooms.

1985

Total enrolment was 1434. Our school has progressed into an established educational institution in Perak.

1986

Conducted the first Computer Studies lessons. Set up the temporary students?hostel. The school obtained the Assistant Minister of Finance, Datuk Lu Yin You¡¡ approval to be exempted from income tax for an amount RM 5000000 from fund-raisings.

1987 Became Champions in the Perak Independent Schools Sports Meet. Raised funds of RM 42 000 in the Calsberg¡¡ ¡¡op 10 Singers?concert organized by the Nanyang Siang Pau.
1988 Enrolment totaled 1357. Revamped the facilities for the electronics and vocational workshops.
1989

Joint effort with Inti College to conduct TOEFL/AEB programmes. Appointed as the examination centre for AEB. Enrolment was 1500 with 80 staff members.
Began the 4th phase of the school development project with the construction of the School Hostel.Attained the distinction of being the largest and best-equipped independent school in Perak.

1990

The school enrolment reached 1522 while the number of teachers and staff members totaled 80. Started the 4th phase of the development project with the construction of the school¡¡ hostel. Poi Lam High School was the fastest expanding and developed Chinese independent school in Perak.

1991

Enrolment was 1507 with 34 classes.
Emerged as champion in the Perak Chinese Independent Schools Sports Meet.
Students attended the RELC course in English.

1992

Enrolment was 1555 with 35 classes.
School Hostel opened for boarders.
Joint association with Juliana Beauty Academy to start Skincare and Beauty classes.

1993

Enrolment was 1415 with 36 classes.
Became sister school to The Chinese High School, Singapore.
Formed closer ties with Ji-Mei Language and Cultural School in Xiamen, China.
Became Champion for the 6th consecutive year in the 9th Perak Chinese Independent Schools Sports Meet.

1994

Conducted the 1st Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary School in association with The Chinese High School, Singapore.
Held the Perak Chinese Cultural Festival and the 5th Sukma Basketball tournament in the school grounds

1995

Established the Parents-Teachers Association (P.T.A.) for Thai students in Bangkok on 08.06.1995.
Conducted the 2nd Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools.
The Chinese Orchestra won the championship in the Pan-Malaysian Competition for the third time.
On 09.09.1995, organized the op10 Charity Concert in association with the Nanyang Siang Pau to raise fund for the 5th phase of the school development project.
On 22.10.1995, Celebrated the school¡¡ 40th Anniversary.

1996

On 01.02.1996, Collaborated with Da-Hwa Vocational School, Taiwan to improve the quality of technical education in our school.
On 27.05.1996, held the 3rd Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools organized by The Chinese High School, Singapore.
In June, held the 15th Walkathon and raised funds of Rm 300,000. Rm 200,000 was spent on the purchase of new computers.
In July, started construction work on the new Science Laboratories building.
Our school was the first Chinese independent school in Perak to go online with our own website. Computers were used in classroom teaching by all the teachers. On 25.09.1006, hecame a branch of Sedaya College, Kuala Lumpur.
Celebrated the school's 41st Anniversary and the 16th anniversary of the P.T.A. with Education Fair and Funfair.

1997

The Science and Vocational Building was finished at the end of the year marking the completion of the 5th phase of the school development project.
On 08.03.1997, the P.T.A. was formed for the Sungai Besar district.
On 30.05.1997, held the 4th Singapore Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools organized by The Chinese High School, Singapore.
On 16.08.1997, held the Prize- Giving Ceremony of the Mathematics Olympiad for Primary Schools. Other schools from countries such as New Zealand, Australia and the Peoples' Republic of China had also participated in this year's competition.
On 07.09.1997, celebrated the 42nd School’s Anniversary and raised fund of RM177,000.
On 07.11.1997, the Chinese Hokkien Association, Board of Directors, members of the P.T.A. and the Poi Lam Alumni held a dinner party to honour Mdm Tan Yoke Fay who retired from the post of Principal, Poi Lam High School.
