Mdm Tan Yoke Fay retired after 35 years in service. Appointed Mr Wong
Hoy Hong as the new Principal. The new Science and Vocational Building
was officially opened for lessons.
On 30.05.1998, the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad Competition for
Primary Schools resumed for the 5th consecutive year.
On 12.06.1998, achieved 3rd place in the Perak Chinese Independent
Schools Sports Meet.
On 20.06.1998, attained 3rd place in the Perak Forum Competition for
the Chinese Independent Schools.
On 22.08.1998, held the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad Competition
for Primary Schools Prize-Giving Ceremony.
On 08.11.1998, celebrated the school 43rd Anniversary and the
18th Anniversary of the P.T.A. with Education Fair, Project Exhibition,
Food & Funfair and the Anniversary Fund-raising Dinner.
Raised funds of RM163 000.

Mr Wong Hoy Hong retired after 1 years in service as the
Principal.
On 17.03.1999, the Ministry of Education, Taiwan R.O.C.
presented a set of computer equipped with Internet services
and software to the school.
On 22.05.1999, Mdm Cheung Beng Heong, the Vice-Principal
and Senior Assistant took up all duties of the Principal.
Conducted the 6th Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for
Primary Schools Competition.
26.05.1999 - 28.05.1999, conducted the G.C.E. O evel
English As A First Language Workshop for Senior Middle Two
students.
On 31.07.1999, chaired the 10th Perak Chinese Independent
Schools Sports Meet.
On 13.08.1999, the Ministry of Education, Taiwan R.O.C.
presented a set of CDs, tapes and handbook on learning spoken
Chinese.
On 17.08.1999, held a seminar for teachers on he Role
of a Chinese Independent School Student by Dr Chang Kwong
Djee.
On 27.08.1999, held a seminar for teachers on quality
Education in the Chinese Independent School System
organized by Dong Zhong.
On 17.09.1999, organized the 6th Singapore Mathematical
Olympiad for Primary Schools Prize-Giving Ceremony and
celebrated the Mooncake Festival with Foreign students and the
hostel residents.
On 09.10.1999, celebrated Parent Night with a concert
organized by the students of Poi Lam High School.
On 10.10.1999, the official opening ceremony of the Science
and Vocational Building and celebrated the school 44th
Anniversary with Education Fair, Project Exhibition, Food
& Funfair and the Anniversary Fund-raising Dinner. Raised
a sum of RM 185000.
On 13.10.1999, the Ministry of Education, Taiwan R.O.C.
presented our school with videos on Chinese Culture as
souvenirs.
On 16.10.1999, established the school Teachers and
Staff Welfare Association. The objectives of the Association
are to promote and to upkeep quality teaching through
educational activities and seminars.
On 19.12.1999, the Vice-Principal, Mdm Cheung Beng Heong
and the members of the staff paid their last respects to the
late Mr Lin Lian Yu, the former Chairman of the Teachers
Association, in Kuala Lumpur.
