On 03.01.01, New school year started.
On 01.12.00, Madam ONG YU CHING took up the position of Head Warden of the Poi Lam Hostel.
Her responsibilities include the development of all physical and mental aspects of the boarders. Students are taught
to be independent, thus enabling themselves to look after their own well-being as well as their fellow students. By
implementing a systematic and structured management, the hostel will be an ideal environment for
A new outdoor badminton cum "sepak takraw" court is constructed in the grounds of the hostel to meet
the students' recreational needs.
The total enrolment for the year 2001 has increased to 839.
On 13.01.01, The official opening ceremony of the new school year.
Our school assisted Dong Jiao Zhong in fund-raising donations for the New Era College.
On 15.01.01, Set up the Poi Lam Students?Financial Assistance Fund.
On 16.03.01, Built a new outdoor badminton court in the school hostel for the recreational activities of the hostel students. Total amount spent was
RM 6 900.
On 06.04.01, Tow Mor Keong Temple in Ipoh assisted the three Chinese independent schools in aid to raise funds of RM 22,500
for each school.
On 13.04.01, Our student, Teng Liek Yek obtained all As in the U.E.C. Junior Section and obtained the 2001 Hai Hua scholarship.
On 14.04.01, Organised the 28th Anniversary Celebration of the Chinese Independent Schools with exhibitions and talks. The Chairman,
Mr Lim Kok Cheong and the nine Principals of the independent schools in Perak were invited. Mr Hu Wan Duo and Mr
Guo Quan Qiang officiated the opening ceremony. Raised funds of RM 13 030 for the school. On the other hand, the
Chairman, teachers and students of Poi Lam High School donated RM 11455 in aid of the development of New Era College.
On 12.05.01, The Chinese Teachers?Association organized a Speech contest for Secondary Schools students. Our student,
Ng Shi Jye, was the champion in the Junior section.
On 23.06.01, Celebrated Teachers?Day and held the opening ceremony of the Multi-media Room officiated by Mr Kok Bon
Chuan. He donated RM3000 for the installation of new facilities in the room.
On 22.06.01-25.06.01, Officials from the Jimei College, the Peoples?Republic of China, visited the school.
On 12.07.01, we received teaching materials and aids from the college.
On 21.07.01, The Karate-do club members obtained numerous awards for their participation in the competition organized by
the Malaysia Gishinkan Karate-Do Federation in Penang.
On 28.07.01, Participated in the Physics Quiz organized by the nstitut Fizik Malaysia? Our students Tan Yink Chau,
Lee Pei Wah, Tu Poh Koon, Ching Koon Chian and Ho Kit Yeng obtained silver and bronze awards.
On 31.07.01, The renowned Hsing-Chuan Tsai Vs Rainbow Ensemble from Taiwan gave an outstanding piano and violin recital
in the school hall.
On 11.08.01, Chung Hwa High School, Kuala Kangsar organized the 8th Classical Music Singing Competition. Wong Ying Torng
clinched the championship in the Junior Girls?section.
On 25.08.01, Members of the staff and students participated in the Perak Chinese Independent Schools?Cross-Country
Marathon. Our students obtained the championship in the Boys?section and Mr Goku, in the Teachers?category.
On 07.10.01, Celebrated our school 46th and the P.T.A. 21st Anniversaries with the Annual Food and Funfair, the
Education Fair and a fund-raising Dinner. The total amount raised was RM270,000.
On 03.11.01, Held the Graduation Ceremony and the Annual Prize-Giving Ceremony. Cash awards and trophies for the top
students in the Prize-giving Ceremony were contributed by the Magnum Group of Companies. At night, it was the
Prize-Giving Ceremony for the ingapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools?and 剌arents?Night?
On 28.12.01, Lee Foundation donated RM 25,000 to the school for new computer equipment.
